Moby Dick by Herman Melville

“Hast thou seen the White Whale?”

That’s one of my favorite phrases from any book. And there sure were a lot of classical quotes contained within!

I loved this book, but do have some minor gripes. First, many chapters are info dumps that delve into the details of whaling. It was like reading encyclopedia articles. I shudder to suggest it, but the impatient reader could easily skim those chapters without losing much.

And second, the writing was flowery and winded, as were many books of the time. But you do become accustomed to the prose with little effort.

The book was more funny than I thought it would be. One I’m glad I read and will always remember.
